Five horizontal watercolor brush strokes in deep lavender and ink blue with a cool ash accent on white, with a Saul Bass–style ink icon of a vertical doorway with a soft curved drape partially crossing it, suggesting fabric caught in a current.

Veildraft

VAYL-draft

Origins

From veil and draft — both a screen and a current of air, something that obscures and something that carries us along.

Meaning

We thought we were escaping pain. Looking back we see we were also escaping ourselves. Every time we used, we were drifting past a moment that asked us to grow, to look, to admit something true.

Veildraft is the recognition that addiction kept us moving without ever quite arriving. The veil was soft. The drift felt like ease. But underneath, a whole life was quietly going unlived, one substance, one behavior, one avoidance at a time.

Usage

I had a Veildraft moment thinking about all the years I spent avoiding myself without even knowing I was doing it.
