Five horizontal watercolor brush strokes in slate whisper and cool ash with an ember orange accent on white, with a Saul Bass-style ink icon of an upright siren horn near the top with concentric arc lines radiating outward into empty air.

Sirenhour

SY-ren-owr

Origins

From the air raid sirens that kept sounding their monthly test long after the war ended, a whole town going still at a noise that no longer meant anything.

Meaning

The alarm system keeps running on its old schedule after the threat is gone. We are safe, we know we are safe, and a car door at night still empties our chest.

Sirenhour is the moment we notice the body sounding an alarm for a war that ended. Our thinking has moved on and our nervous system is still standing in the street, waiting for the all-clear.

Usage

Certain sounds still give me a Sirenhour jolt, my body reacting to something my head knows is long over.
