Five horizontal watercolor brush strokes in cool ash and misted teal with a soft-gold accent on white, with a Saul Bass–style ink icon of a clustered group of dots and one offset dot connected back into the group.

Majorivue

MAJ-or-ih-VYOO

Origins

From majorité (French for majority) and vue (French for view), blended into a single coined form.

Meaning

Majorivue is the moment we realize we are not the only one abstaining, and we never were.

We spent early recovery feeling like the lone person not taking part, convinced our choice was obvious and strange. Then the social math corrects itself. We look around and see the quiet truth, most people are not using.

The relief is almost tender, like stepping out of costume. Our abstinence stops feeling like a statement and starts feeling like one of the common ways to live.

Usage

I felt Majorivue when I finally noticed how many people were just living their lives without taking part.
